A Downtown Kansas City Engagement Session Adventure | Nelson Atkins and more
Downtown sessions always bring a little extra energy, but Selene and Bryce’s Kansas City engagement session felt like stepping into a stylish date night adventure around the city. From drinks and pool at a local saloon to cruising through the West Bottoms on a motorcycle and ending with their dog at the iconic Nelson-Atkins Museum steps, their engagement session captured everything that makes downtown Kansas City so fun and dynamic.
As a Kansas City wedding photographer, sessions like this are my favorite because they feel less like a photoshoot and more like documenting a real experience together.
If you’re planning your own Kansas City engagement session, Selene and Bryce’s session is the perfect inspiration for turning your shoot into an unforgettable city adventure.
Starting the Engagement Session at Chartreuse Saloon
We kicked off Selene and Bryce’s downtown Kansas City engagement session at Chartreuse Saloon, located near the Crossroads Arts District. The relaxed bar atmosphere immediately set the tone for the evening.
They grabbed drinks, played a few games of pool, and simply enjoyed being together. Starting an engagement session with an activity like this helps couples relax quickly — and the photos naturally feel more authentic.
Instead of stiff posing, we captured real moments: laughter over missed pool shots, cheers with drinks, and those little looks couples share when they’re having fun together.
For couples planning a Kansas City engagement session, incorporating a meaningful location or activity can make the entire experience feel more personal and memorable.

West Bottoms Motorcycle Photos with an Editorial Edge
After leaving Chartreuse, we headed over to the West Bottoms, one of the most unique neighborhoods for a Kansas City engagement session.
The industrial architecture, brick buildings, and historic streets create an incredible backdrop for couples wanting something a little more editorial and fashion-forward.
Selene changed the energy of the session with her outfit — a fun white dress featuring pearl lace sleeves paired with sunglasses. Bryce complemented her look with a classic suit, giving the entire scene a stylish, almost cinematic vibe.
The motorcycle became the centerpiece of this portion of the shoot as they rode around the streets of the West Bottoms. These photos felt adventurous, playful, and effortlessly cool — like something out of a film.
As a Kansas City engagement photographer, the West Bottoms is always one of my favorite spots because it offers such a wide variety of textures and backgrounds within just a few blocks.
Ending at the Nelson-Atkins Museum with Their Dog
To wrap up the evening, we finished the session at one of the most iconic locations for a Kansas City engagement session — the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
The grand staircase outside the museum offers a timeless and elegant setting, which was the perfect contrast to the earlier, more adventurous part of their shoot.
Selene and Bryce brought their dog along for this final portion of the session, which added such a sweet personal element to the photos. Including pets in an engagement session is always a wonderful way to tell the full story of a couple’s life together.
The light was soft, the atmosphere was calm, and it created the perfect ending to their city adventure.
